PhD Letters for Scholarships Student Environmental Chemistry

Letters for Scholarships Most of this project is carried out from nt of POPs is at ETH Zurich, Visual Basic, Matlab or similar programming tools based performed. Theme: A series of semi-volatile organic compounds are widely used as additives in building materials concerns about the accidental release into the air and the ubiquity of the environment, get used to it. Some of these additives have in the dangerous class of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), including fugitive emissions in urban areas have barely been studied, partly because of the nature of this difficult and costly investigations. To reduce to close this knowledge gap, the project has launched CityPOP.
This position requires a highly motivated scientist with experience in trace analytical chemistry. Some familiarity in modeling is of considerable advantage. CityPOP requires a scientist interested in challenging experimental work, keen in applying computer models, efficient in interacting with different research teams, having good communication skills, and enjoying outdoor field work. The successful candidate holds a master degree in chemistry, environmental or natural sciences with an excellent academic record.
Letters for Scholarships Fluency in English is mandatory and good knowledge of German is desired. Ideally, the work begins as soon as possible; the planned project duration is three years.
For further information please contact the two persons in charge of CityPOP directly, Dr. Andreas Gerecke (andreas.gerecke@empa.ch, +41 44 823 4953, no apllication) or Dr. Christian Bogdal (christian.bogdal@chem.ethz.ch, +41 44 632 5951, no application). CityPOP provides a unique opportunity for a doctoral student to acquire experience in two related chemical disciplines. The project partners offer a diverse and stimulating work environment and are internationally recognized leaders in their field. Stat-of-the-art analytical facilities, excellent computing facilities, and well established links to leading international research groups exist. Particularly within CityPOP the field work is conducted in collaboration with Lancaster University (UK). Appointment and workplace for this position are divided between EMPA in Dübendorf and ETH Zurich on the Science City Campus. The candidate is enrolled as doctoral student at ETH Zurich; further information about the enrollment as docotral student at ETH Zurich is available at www.phd.ethz.ch. Academic main supervisor is Prof. Konrad Hungerbühler.
Please apply online, including letter of application, curriculum vitae, full academic records such as bachelor and master degree and references to: Prof. Konrad Hunbergühler, Inst. f. Chemie- u. Bioing.wiss., HCI G 133, Wolfgang-Pauli-Str. 10, CH-8093 Zürich.
