SAWISE Hope Scholarship - Africa

Job Description: Application are invited for the SAWISE Hope Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria : Female students entering their Honours degree/4th year of study with an academic average of over 65%, pursuing study in the areas of science and engineering (medical fields included). Candidates must exhibit outstanding personal qualities and a strong desire to make a contribution to their respective fields and to society at large. Candidates must be South
African. Preference will be given to a candidate experiencing financial difficulty or distress.

Period: One year, full-time study.
Tenable: At any of the following universities: University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of Kwazulu-Natal, University of Pretoria, University of Stellenbosch, University of the Witwatersrand, University of the Western Cape.
Value: R10 000
Mentorship: The scholarship founding group will serve as mentors to the recipient over the course of her Honours year /4th year of study. The recipient will be assigned special industry-specific mentors that align with her field of study. The recipient will have the opportunity to interact with the founding network of professional women through her invitation to, and participation in,
Hope Network and SAWISE events.

PhD student position in Production Area of Advance - People and Automation in Complex Production Systems

Do you want to be part of creating the production systems of the future? We are looking for an ambitious PhD candidate for a position at Chalmers' Division of Production Systems. The PhD project focuses on development of complex production systems where automation and people will collaborate.
Job description
As PhD student you are part of a larger research team mainly working with applied research in the area of Advanced Production Systems. Your focus project, COMPLEX, deals with ways to reduce complexity in future assembly systems for automotive and consumer products. In addition to the Chalmers research group, you will work closely to research institutes, industry, and universities in Sweden and Belgium. Together, we will establish methods and create technology to deal with information flow, levels of automation, and complex work situations. An important part of the work will be to develop mobile communication solutions for operators and maintenance personnel, based on iOS and Android device platforms. You will work with support tools, models, and standards to increase the cognitive automation in the production operator work situation.

In addition, you will participate in courses within the graduate school ProViking (http://www.chalmers.se/ppd/provikingforskarskola-sv). Also, the PhD position includes teaching responsibilities up 20% of the time, mainly as classroom teaching, project supervision, and lab-work supervision.
Required qualifications
The applicant should hold a recent M.Sc. degree related to production systems, automation, or similar. (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and similar)
Good analytical skills and ability to work independently towards set research goals.
High social skills, ability to create networks, and ambition to take on responsibility.
High proficiency in English. The project will include interviewing situations which also require proficiency in Swedish
Additional desired applicant skills: Programming (e.g. xml, iOS, and Android), database management (SQL), visualization, human factors engineering, and mobile communication.

The division of production systems focuses on three areas: Sustainable Production, Virtual Production, and Production Ergonomics. We are 15 persons, including researchers, teachers, and PhD students. Our research and education is applied n several industrial sectors, e.g. automotive, food, process, and aerospace. A good balance between humans and technology is a core factor in our work.

The PhD project is part of Chalmers' Area of Advance Production and The Sustainable Production Initiative.
